Stewart-Buchanan Gauges to exhibit at ADIPEC 2018

Offshore Energy Conference and Exhibition 2017

We’re delighted to announce that Stewart-Buchanan Gauges will be exhibiting at the ADIPEC 2018 conference in Abu Dhabi in November. It’s our first time at the event, where we’ll be promoting our full range of valve, manifold, pressure and temperature gauge products.

ADIPEC (Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference) provides a business forum for oil and gas professionals to meet and engage in dialogue, create partnerships, do business and identify solutions and strategies that will shape the industry for the years ahead. Now in its 35th year, it’s one of the biggest events of its kind in the world and will welcome 110,000 attendees over four days.

The Stewart-Buchanan Gauges stand is in the UK Pavilion, Stand number 8412. Russell Robinson, our Export Sales Manager, John O’Donnell, our Sales Director and Robert Baird, Marketing Manager are our exhibition team for the event. Visitors who drop by will also have the chance to play our specially designed game, ‘Pressure Panic’ which challenges them to transport liquid across an onscreen grid through a series of valves before time runs out.

If you’re planning to attend, please come and say hello! Find stand 8412 on the exhibition map here. You can also find out more about the event on the ADIPEC website.

Or, if you are attending the event and would like to book some time with a member of our team, please get in touch.

Cyber Essentials certification – taking cyber security seriously

Cyber Essentials certification – taking cyber security seriously

We’re delighted to announce that Stewart-Buchanan Gauges has successfully achieved Cyber Essentials certification. Cyber Essentials is a Government-backed scheme run by the UK National Cyber Security Centre and is designed to help business protect themselves from cyber attack.

With online crime posing an ever-greater threat to businesses, the scheme helps us protect our company from a whole range of the most common cyber attacks, including phishing, hacking and password guessing. The Cyber Essentials certification verifies that our IT is suitably robust and secure and meets the standards set by the scheme.

We decided to undertake this accreditation to reassure our customers that we are committed to keeping our IT systems and customer data as secure as possible. Having this accreditation will also enable us to tender for a wide range of local and national government contracts. This is particularly important to us as we are already an existing supplier to the Ministry of Defence (MOD) and other Government departments. Going forward, having the Cyber Essentials certification will be a minimum requirement to successfully tender for many of these contracts.

To find out more about the scheme and to view our company certification listing, please visit the Cyber Essentials website.

Maid of the Loch – helping restore the heart of one of our oldest customers

Maid of the Loch – helping restore the heart of one of our oldest customers

Launched in 1953, the Clyde-built the Maid of the Loch was the last paddle steamer to be built in Britain

When you’ve been in business as long as we have, it is a real pleasure to revisit customers from days gone by. As time passes, some of those customers need a bit more help than others. That’s why we’re delighted to get involved in the campaign to restore the historic Loch Lomond paddle steamer, the Maid of the Loch.

The Maid of the Loch is a very special boat. Launched in 1953, the Clyde built vessel was the last paddle steamer to be built in Britain and Stewart-Buchanan Gauges proudly supplied the original gauges for her engines. Licensed to carry up to 1,000 passengers, she was the largest paddle steamer to ever sail Loch Lomond. After nearly three decades of service and millions of passengers later, the Maid was decommissioned. While she was later restored as a tourist attraction, she never sailed again.

Full steam ahead!
Now, thanks to the fundraising efforts of the Loch Lomond Steamship Company (LLSC), a charity staffed entirely by volunteers, there is a chance that the Maid could grace the waters of Loch Lomond once more. After a successful Heritage Lottery Fund bid in 2015, LLSC secured funding of £3.8m to help return the Maid to full operation. However, this is on the condition that the charity can raise additional funds themselves.

A crowdfunding campaign is now underway to restore the ‘heart’ of the Maid of the Loch by raising £125,000 to buy a new steam boiler to power the ship. We have offered our help to repair and re-calibrate our original gauges and, where necessary, replace any missing or damaged ones. It will be a step back in time for Stewart-Buchanan Gauges and a real honour to get involved. We’d be delighted to see this beautiful old boat back where she belongs, sailing the iconic Loch Lomond.

Manufacturing a market-leading High Tolerance NPT Thread

Manufacturing a market-leading High Tolerance NPT Thread

At Stewart-Buchanan Gauges, our commitment to quality and product innovation means we constantly strive to manufacture market-leading, technically advanced products. That’s why we have developed our own High Tolerance NPT Thread to produce a higher quality, safer joint.

Our High Tolerance NPT Thread goes over and above the normal tolerances of a standard NPT thread. Using current tapered thread standards, we have maximised the tolerance on the male thread while minimising the tolerance at the female end. This means that our NPT connection has five to six threads engaged when fully tightened compared with the usual three to four threads of a standard NPT connection.

High Tolerance NPT Thread
This improved thread engagement is at the core of what makes our product stronger and safer than many on the market today. We are one of only a few manufacturers worldwide to produce all of our tapered threads in this way to ensure a safe, secure joint.

Our Subsea Pressure Gauge range is a hit at Offshore Energy 17

Our Subsea Pressure Gauge range is a hit at Offshore Energy 17

Stewart-Buchanan Gauges had a successful trip exhibiting at our first ever event outside the UK. Held in the first week in October in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, the Offshore Energy 17 conference also marked the first outing of our brand-new exhibition stand.

Our new game, 'Pressure Panic' designed specifically for the Offshore Energy 17 exhibition

Offshore Energy 17 introduced us to many new companies that operate within the oil and gas market, including commercial diving companies, plus offshore wind and marine renewable energy firms. Our range of subsea pressure gauges is perfectly suited to the growing offshore renewable energy sector and we took along a range of product samples that attracted a lot of interest. The event introduced us to Dutch companies that we haven’t worked with before and it was fantastic to make so many new contacts.

We had time for some fun too. We introduced our new game, ‘Pressure Panic’ designed specifically for the exhibition. Visitors to our stand were challenged to transport liquid across an onscreen grid through a series of valves and to complete each level before time ran out. The person with the highest score each day won a bottle of single malt whisky. The game proved very popular and prizes are on their way to the skilful winners.

Overall, the Offshore Energy 17 event was a great success, raising our profile with and attracting interest from a new and important audience for us. We’re looking forward to a return visit next year!

Offshore Energy Conference and Exhibition 2017

We’re pleased to announce that we are exhibiting at this years’ Offshore Energy Conference and Exhibition in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. It’s the first time that Stewart-Buchanan Gauges has had a presence at the event and our exhibition team will be Sales Director, John O’Donnell, Export Manager, Russell Robinson and Marketing Manager, Robert Baird.

The two-day event takes place from 10-11 October 2017 and includes a conference addressing the technical, operational and commercial challenges associated with future growth in the offshore energy sector. Organisers are expecting up to 12,000 visitors to attend over the course of the two days. While one of our core markets, the oil and gas sector, features strongly, the exhibition and conference also covers offshore wind and marine energy. The offshore renewable energy sector is one that we have worked with recently and we’re keen to increase our presence in this growing market. We will be showcasing our relevant gauge and valve products on our stand.

If you’re planning to attend, please come and say hello! Our stand number is 1.095, conveniently located near the bar area in Hall 1 and you can find it on the exhibition map here. You can also find out more about the event on the Offshore Energy 2017 website.
